5 Fandom Friday: Fandom Guilty Pleasures

This week's 5 Fandom Friday is about Fandom Guilty Pleasures. I am not entirely sure what constitutes a guilt pleasure in this case so I am just going to throw out some ideas.
Thanks to The Nerdy Girlie, SuperSpaceChick and @MeghanSaraK for this week's prompt.

1. Funko Pops
My first funko pops were part of a giveaway I won and there has been no going back since. I try to stay within fandoms that I like. I am working on my Marvel collection. I have some Batman ones, especially Harley Quinns. And a few odd ones from different shows here and there. I want the Outlander and the Doctor Who ones next. I also have an addiction to the mystery minis. I have Game of Thrones, Walking Dead, Batman and some Titan Doctor Who ones. Love these.

2. Musicals
I grew up on musicals. I have so many musical soundtracks. But it doesn't stop there. I have instrumental music from movies and tv shows too. One of my favorites is the soundtrack to Kenneth Branagh's Much Ado About Nothing. Jerry Goldsmith is one of my favorite instrumental composers for films. Logan's Run and Exodus come to mind. And to add to my geeky reputation I have an instrumental cd for Xena Warrior Princess. All Hail the Nerd Queen.

3. Youtubers
I find myself spending for too much time watching videos of youtubers. Danisnotonfire, KickthePJ, Jimmy0010 and Carrie Hope Fletcher are some of the ones I watch the most. Although I do find myself watching baking videos a lot.

4. Nail Polish
I do have a strange love affair with nail polish. Above is Mighty Boosh and Avengers nail art. I am not very good at nail art but I just keep doing it.

5. Binge Watching
Even before I got Netflix I binged watched my favorite shows. I have so many of my favorite sci-fi/fantasy shows on DVD. Now with Netflix it is almost a daily addiction to watch hours of shows on my laptop in bed when I should be asleep. I have gone to bed after the sun has risen too many times. Yet I will probably do that again tonight. Only when the birds start chirping do I turn the computer off : )

June Ipsy and Birchbox

It's Ipsy and Birchbox time. These are monthly subscription boxes that cost $10 shipped to the US. As always I split these out with my mom. The products she took are in Orange

Ipsy
Every Ipsy bag comes with its own make up bag.
  • BioRepublic Sheet Masks- Three of these masks came this month. I love these masks. I've had the cucumber before but I hadn't seen the others.
  • tre'StQue Mini Eyeshadow Crayon- I though this came without a lid at first. A creamy eye shadow that goes on smooth.
  • Glamierre Flat Top Concealer Brush- I love getting make up tools in these bags.
  • J Cat Beauty Liptitude Hydrating Lip Stain- A really good amount of lip stain.
  • Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer- I have always wanted to try this. I haven't had a chance to yet, but I'm excited about getting it.
  • (At the top) Pura Vida Lace Headband- They say it is a bonus but it seems like a random thing they just threw in. Not really great.
  • Marcelle Waterproof Eyeliner- This came in a mauve color. Goes on easy and stays on. Truly waterproof.
  • COOLA SPF 50 Sport Mango- A mango scented sun screen. Way too mango.
  • Number 4 Super Comb Prep & Protect- We get a lot of these in these boxes. They all work pretty well.
  • Paula's Choice Moisturizer with Retinol- I have fairly sensitive skin so it is always a hit or miss with Retinol. This one is a hit. Went on without any problems.
  • Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream- A rather small sample of face cream.

Not bad this month. Favorites; Ipsy- Smashbox primer because I have been wanting to try it. Birchbox- Paula's Choice Retinol.

5 Fandom Friday: Characters with my Favorite Fictional Fashion

It is Friday which means Fandom Friday!
Thanks to TheNerdyGirlie, SuperSpaceChick and @1CuriousWriter for this week's prompt. Characters with my Favorite Fictional Fashion.

1. Lydia Deetz

Lydia Deetz

I loved the cartoon version of Beetlejuice when I was growing up. I wanted to be Lydia. I plan to make her red spider web poncho for Halloween this year.

2. Peggy Carter
Peggy Carter

Kick ass style and sophistication. Peggy just has great taste in everything.

3. The Craft Girls

The Craft

I went through a goth stage but I was never as cool as these girls. I wore the dark red lipstick and the black eyeliner but I was too suburban to pull off any of their looks.

4. Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn

While I love Catwoman, Harley Quinn is closer to my taste in fashion. I do love red and black.

5. Rocky Horror

Rocky Horror

I need that t-shirt. I have been a regular Frankie fan for decades. I had a friend that I called Riff Raff and she called me Magenta.

The Dragon's Loyalty Award and 7 Facts

My fellow Placebo and IAMX fan Gaby from Whimsy and Noir nominated me for the Dragon's Loyalty Award. Us Geeky Girls with great music taste stick together.
I would have written this earlier in the week but I have been without power off and on.

The Rules:
  • Visit and thank the blogger who nominated you.
  • Acknowledge the blogger on your blog with a link.
  • Share 7 things about yourself that other bloggers might not know
  • Nominate up to 15 other bloggers for a Dragon's Loyalty Award, linking to their blogs and notifying them.
  • Copy and paste the award somewhere on your blog
I'm going to nominate Cate from Cateaclysmic and Kendall from Distracted Blogger

And now onto the 7 Facts
  1. I didn't like Frozen. I prefer Brave and Tangled of the newer Disney Films
  2. I can play guitar, piano, clarinet and bass clarinet.
  3. No matter how long I go between acting parts I will always consider myself an actress.
  4. I  went through a grunge phase in elementary school but by then grunge was over. Also the only flannel I had was pink and blue. So Alternative...not
  5. Shirley Manson is my style icon but I could never pull off anything she wears. She is just cool.
  6. I can sew and have made several quilts. I am basically an old woman.
  7. I am an only child but I have so many cousins that I never felt like I didn't have siblings. I just didn't have to share as much.

5 Fandom Friday: Favorite Fictional Dads

It is time for 5 Fandom Friday!
This week's theme is Favorite Fictional Dads. And of course 5 Fandom Friday would not exist without The Nerdy Girlie and SuperSpaceChick

1. Ned Stark (Game of Thrones)
Ned made many mistakes (MANY mistakes) but he was a great dad to Arya. Out of the entire Stark clan I think these two had the best relationship. Ned knew Arya better than anyone else seemed to and he tried to help her be who she wanted to be. In many ways his support has helped keep her one of the few Stark survivors. Those "Dancing Lessons" have worked.

2. Rick Grimes (The Walking Dead)
The zombie apocalypse is no place for children but Rick has done better than most. Both of his kids are alive (in the TV series) and they are not too messed up. Sophia didn't last long and Lizzie went all psycho...Look at the Flowers. Sure one of the most used phrases from the series is "where's Carl" but Rick is doing everything he can to keep his kids safe.

3. Mr. Bennett (Pride and Prejudice)
Mr. Bennett may hate his wife but he does care about his kids. Well he cares about Elizabeth and to a lesser degree Jane. He comes across as a docile old man but he does step up when it count. If not for Mr. Bennett the plot of Pride and Prejudice would have gone wrong. Elizabeth Collins, no thank you.

4. Frank Gallagher (Shameless UK)
I binged watched this series from beginning to end last month. As horrible as Frank can be, he has these truly touching moments with his kids. They a few and far between but somehow this neglectful, sponging, vulgar bastard cares about his kids. This show is awful and everyone needs to watch it.

5. Rory Williams (Doctor Who)
Rory never got the chance to be a real father to his and Amy Pond's daughter, River. She was taken away from them from birth. Still Rory seems like he would have been an awesome dad. I can see him dressing up and playing all sorts of games with his kid. Even though they did not get the traditional father-daughter relationship they still managed to have some really good moments together. Father-daughter punching Hitler. Ah memories.

Tony Awards Cookies

The Tony Awards show is my favorite awards show. I love musical theatre and this is the closest to a Broadway Show that I get to see. Because of the Tony Awards I found some of my favorite musicals even though I have never been able to see them performed live.
Last year I made a Tony Awards menu that was pretty easy to make. Last year's nominees made it a breeze to come up with ideas...Thank you Hedwig!
This year has been a bit more difficult. Because I am not having an actually Tony Party I wanted something that could be made ahead and would not be expensive.
Cookies it is!
Since a number of nominees this year either had something to do with royalty or occurred in a time period named after a sovereign (Victorian) I decided to make crown cookies with these royals' names written on them. And of course some drama mask cookies because this is the Tonys.
I used an oval shape cookie cutter for the masks and cut a semi-circle shape from the top. Withe the crowns I used a cupcake cookies cutter and cut out a shallow semi-circle from the bottom to give it a hat like shape.

Since I cannot bake or cook without something going wrong I could not find my most used icing tip and the "gold" icing turned bright orange. That was when I knew that this project was turning into a Pinterest Fail.
Yup, it started to go wrong fast.
I used a buttercream frosting that I made from scratch for these instead of royal icing. The buttercream does not go on as smooth but it taste better. Just powered sugar, water, vanilla and shortening. Not remotely healthy.
Welp there they are.
One each of the crowns I wrote a King or Queen's name from one of the nominee plays or musicals.
  • King Henry- Wolf Hall
  • King of Siam- The King and I
  • Queen Elizabeth- Queen during the Musical Something Rotten
  • Queen Victoria- Queen during The Elephant Man
This went wrong but they taste great.
The Tony Awards will air this Sunday on CBS. I'll will most likely be live tweeting on Twitter. Catch me there @eris_discord42

Faux Foodie- Eton Mess

Since life is strange right now, I have nothing relevant to post right now... so instead a re-post/edit of one of my favorite desserts ...
