Finding IAMX

I have written about bands and artists who I love before, Placebo and Bowie. Today I want to just take a few minutes to tell you about IAMX.

I discovered IAMX during that angsty transition between High School and for me Community College.
I was still hanging out occasionally with my "friends" from High School. (I put that in parenthesis because in retrospect many of my High School friends treated me badly all under the guise of friendship.) I had gotten into the University I wanted to go to but I ended up not going because I couldn't afford it, hence community college bound I was.
Now you can kind of figure out the mindset I was in when I stumbled across the sneak preview site for IAMX's debut cd.

I scoured Tulsa for this cd once it came out. I had at least one person hang up on me for asking for the cd "Kiss and Swallow".
Chris Corner's voice is so beautiful. I would highly recommend checking out his music with the Sneaker Pimps too. With IAMX he takes a more, for lack of a better word, Techno approach. Yet the lyrics are so moving. As someone angry at the word at 19-20 Kiss and Swallow just pulled me in and took me away.

There is a darkness to some of IAMX's songs. I Die After Every Party, Naked But Safe and Your Joy Is My Low spring to mind.
IAMX continues with each album to experiment with darkness, glitter, pain and joy.
And while I have enjoyed every album released so far, Kiss and Swallow will always be my favorite. It is the soundtrack to the start of my turbulent adulthood.

All Things Team Cap

I have been looking forward to Captain America: Civil War and I am so ecstatic that it lived up to all my expectations.
In these past few weeks there has been a flux of amazing merchandise. I am a bit too poor to get everything I want but that hasn't stopped me from having a bit of fun.
(I am now planning on having a Team Cap birthday. All things Stucky)

I managed to include my Marvel love at work. I made a display at the library asking students to vote for either Team Iron Man or Team Captain.
As of right now Team Iron Man is winning and that makes me sad.
Of course I had to try my hand at Team Cap nail art. I failed in many respects, but I still kind of like the results.

I could not resisted this Captain America Body pillow. It is currently on my couch and it is the first thing that anyone sees when they walk into my house. I love it.

Honestly if I had unlimited funds everything I own would be Marvel right now. Currently I am looking for anything Bucky. (My Sebastian Stan obsession is going strong)

Captain America: Civil War Review

If you have not seen Captain America: Civil War and do not want to see any spoilers stop now.

First let me tell you how long it has been since I have gone to a movie theater. The first Star Trek reboot it 2009. Seven years.
After getting both Age of Ultron and Star Wars the Force Awakens spoiled on social media I could not let this happen to CP:CW.

I am so glad that I actually went.
This film lived up to all the hype. Even my mom who is not a big Captain or Marvel fan (She does like the Thor movies) was on the edge of her seat covering her mouth. That is saying a lot.
I was pretty much in the same position.

There are tons of reviews and synopsis of this film out there so I am just going to review it my way.
I loved how much Bucky we got in this. Also the bickering between Falcon and Bucky was spot on. These are Steve's two best friends from different times so of course there will be fighting but it is done in such a fun way. Also the look on their faces when Steve and Sharon kiss. You can just see that these two guys really care about him.
Side note- Does it seem a little odd to anyone else that Peggy Carter's niece and Steve are maybe getting involved? I don't necessarily mind it, but it does seem strange.

I am Team Cap all the way, which makes it hard to like Tony some times in this movie. But I will say that RDJ is just one of the best actors of his generation because while I was so angry at Tony during the film I also could not really hate him.

I am interested in the Wanda/Vision relationship. Not being a comic book reader I only know that they have a romantic relationship at some point. Once again Elizabeth Olsen really shines for me.
Ant-man, Natasha and Clint were perfect. Loved Giant-Man. Really glad that Nat didn't completely abandon Steve. I feel like after Captain America: Winter Soldier they have a really strong friendship and I want them to stay that way.

At first I just didn't like Black Panther, mainly because he was going after my Bucky. But the actor was great and as the story progressed and he realized who really killed his father I really started to like him. He could have easily been too focused on killing Bucky to care about the truth but instead took the higher road and actually became an ally to Steve and Bucky.

By the way, in case you don't know, I love Bucky/ Sebastian Stan. He is perfection in my book and I am still disappointed Hottopic ran out of Winter Soldier shirts.

In all I like how balanced the action and plot/character development scenes were. I never feel like anything really drag on.

Now for the low point. Spiderman
I am not a spiderman fan in general.
I just did not see the point in his being there. I guess they are using this as a reboot...again. They could have cut the movie by a least 20 minutes without him.

Overall I absolutely loved this movie.

Bad Blogger- An Update

I have been a bad blogger lately.
The real world has taken over and I just haven't found the time to even read other people blogs. Which is an absolute shame because I follow some amazing bloggers and I need to just set aside a time and go through my ever increasing queue.
Another reason that I haven't been active in the blogosphere is that I have not had much to write about. Sure, my everyday life is keeping me busy but there isn't anything interesting going on. It is all mundane realism.
I am planning in making it my goal in the upcoming weeks to remedy my bad blogger-ness. I am not sure at this very moment how I am going to accomplish this. When I blog I want to write about interesting and fin things both of which I am severely lacking right now.
Hopefully soon I will get in gear and write some interesting content here.

Faux Foodie- Captain America

Basically everything this month for me is Captain America related.
If I had more money, oh the merchandise I would buy.
Moving on to Faux Foodie time.
I wanted to make some Captain America related snacks this month.

 Capt's Shield Pizza
This was pretty simple to make. It is just a homemade pizza with pepperoni designs. To make the Star center I laid out a small circle of pepperoni and used a star cookie cutter.
I think this came out great.

Eton Mess Steve Roger's Style
I have made Eton mess many times because it is absolutely scrumptious.
To make this more "American" I simply added blue food coloring to the meringue cookies.
Learn from my mistake, don't go overboard with the coloring. There were a lot of blue mouths.

The other ingredients to Eton Mess stayed the same. Strawberries (mine were pre-cut and sugary) and whipped cream.
For the best results don't go with store bought whipped cream. Make your own. It just needs whipping cream, sugar and some vanilla extract and that makes all the difference.

And there it is. A delicious red, white and blue dessert that Steve and Bucky would love.

Netflix Picks- May 2016

It is the first of the month so here is my list of Netflix Picks. Only this month in honor of Captain America: Civil War I am choosing movies and T.V. shows with actors for CA: CW.
Since this is Netflix I can't promise how long these titles will be streaming.

Chris Evans
Fantastic Four
Chris Evans as Johnny Storm is so funny and adorable. Fave part is when he is pranking "The Thing" with whip cream like a teenage girl. Such a far cry from the Captain we know and love.

Scarlet Johansson w/ Chris Evan
The Nanny Diaries
To be perfectly honest I didn't really like this film but it has Scarlet (aka The Black Widow) and Chris Evans in it so I thought I would just add it here and leave it up to you to decide.

Robert Downey Jr.
Chaplin
Chaplin is the film that really first showcased what an incredible actor RDJ is. It took him away from the "Brat Pack" stereotype and truly show how he could seamlessly embody an character, or in this case a character based on a real man.

Sebastian Stan
Political Animals

My love for Bucky should be apparent for anyone that knows me. In this TV series Sebby plays the gay son of two political powerhouse but he is battling addiction and depression.
This is an excellent show with some great performances all around.

*Also for Sebastian Stan check out the Mad Hatter episodes of Once Upon a Time. That is where my crush began ; )

---------------------------------------------------------------------
Not Steaming
There are a couple of films I want to add that are no on Netflix right now but if you get a chance to see them you might like them.

In Secret
Starring Elizabeth Olsen and Oscar Issac. Basically you get the Scarlet Witch and Star War's Poe falling in love even though she is married to "Draco Malfoy" and Jessica Lange is she mother-in-law.
A period film based on the novel Therese Raquin

A Love Song For Bobby Long
I wasn't a fan of Scarlet Johansson until this film. A young woman moves into her deceased mother's house with two alcoholic friends of her mom. One of which is John Travolta. This movie shouldn't work but for me it does.

Faux Foodie- Eton Mess

Since life is strange right now, I have nothing relevant to post right now... so instead a re-post/edit of one of my favorite desserts ...
